USB Modems: Wi-Fi All Over

By this time, most people have experienced the liberating joy of Wi-Fi. Between laptops, smart phones, tablets and game consoles, people are connected like never before – literally with no strings attached. However, when it comes to accessing the Internet on their laptop computers, many people remain confined to an area close to their wireless router. It’s similar to the way a cordless home telephone, linked to a land-line, isn’t really the same as a cell phone, even a “dumb phone”.

Cut the Cords

There are plenty of communications companies, though, that are happy to meet their customers’ demand for increased range without diminished services. AT&T and Cricket are just two companies that offer mobile broadband through the use of a USB modem. Similar in appearance to most flash drives, a USB modem will pull down signal in almost any area in which your cell phone does. Better yet, the modem and the additional broadband service are often offered in discount bundles.

Hot Spots Everywhere

Just as many people have given up their land lines and their desktop computers, preferring a fully wireless existence instead, many customers of mobile broadband have no use for their old modem-and-router setups. The use of a USB modem also eliminates the need to constantly log on whenever you encounter a new “hot spot” or other public Wi-Fi location (such as Internet cafes, hotels or restaurants).

Online access, in any place or at any time, gives the user a clear advantage. Whether one’s pursuits are professional, academic or purely recreational, the freedom of true wireless Internet comprises measurable value. The convenience alone makes the investment worthwhile, but the potential rewards loom a lot larger than that.
